Determination (Is a Good Thing)
They try to
Dictate what I say.
They try to tell
Me what to do,
Try to stop me from
Being myself.
They tried to pull
Me down, but I
Won’t let them.
I will stand tall,
Be strong,
Be proud.
In this crewel,
Crewel world, I will
Stay free.
They try to
Tell me what to wear.
They try to tell
Me who to be,
Try to stop me from
Making my own choice.
They try to pull
Me down, but I
Won’t let them.
I will stand tall,
Be strong,
Be proud.
In this crewel,
Crewel world, I will
Stay free.
Maybe one day
We’ll go back to
The way it used to be.
We can run away
So w can look at
A real sunset
In a world that wants
Tear things apart.
The strands of life
Sparkle around us,
But all we want
Is for them to be
Gone.
Gone.
They tried to pull
Me down, but I
Won’t let them.
I will stand tall,
Be strong,
Be proud.
In this crewel,
Crewel world, I will
Stay free.
I will stand tall,
Be strong,
Be proud.
In this crewel,
Crewel world, I will
Stay free.
Explanation:
So this was inspired by Gennifer Albin's Crewel. (THIS NEXT PART IS A BIT SPOILER-Y!) I wanted to get at the concept that Adelice stands on her own, and she won't let anyone, especially The Guild, tell her what to do. I wanted to get at the heart of her as a character and ultimately, her as a person. She lost her family, but she's going to brave it all. She wants her freedom, and she'll do what it takes to get that. In a world where everything tangible is fake (in a sense), her determination is what sets her apart, and it is VERY real. I also wanted to use the play on words with Crewel and cruel because her world is synonymous with cruel.
(I'm not sure whether I like this or the other song better, but I think is a much more empowering song, and I'm all for female empowerment!)
