Music Monday 12/9/13

Yay! I'm so excited to start doing this again!

This week, I've been obsessed with a song many other people have been obsessed with recently. Check it out below, and see which song I've been belting out to for the past week.



You know what my favorite part of the song is (besides the lyrics and video and empowerment)? "My power flurries through the air into the ground/My soul is spiraling in frozen fractals all around/My thought crystallizes like an icy blast/I'm never going back. The past is in the past." I just think that this part really highlights how amazing Idina Menzel's singing is (I mean, it's all really amazing but especially the bridge).

Music Monday 10/14/13

I had nothing in mind until I put my iTunes on shuffle to make a playlist for my friend. Let me tell you, I have well over 2k songs. However, I haven't actually listened to quite a large number of those songs. But I came across this song, and I can't believe I didn't listen to it before.


I'm not going to lie. I've loved David Cook ever since American Idol. I always wanted him to win, if I remember correctly. Or at the very least, when it got down to him and David Archuleta, I wanted Cook to win. I think he's a fabulous singer, and it's so for me to see that though he certainly has come far, people forgot about him after a while. I'll admit that after some time, I did too, but now I'm back, and I'd love for him to release a new album soon. He definitely has talent, and I hope that he continues to release new music for those of us that have stayed fans long after others left.

Music Monday 9/30/13 (Part 2)

Surprise! Okay, so this isn't the song I was planning on sharing, but I forgot to type that one up, so I decided to share this one instead. I wrote this yesterday in like 2 minutes, and the more I look at it, the more unsure I am about it. But I wanted to share something with you guys because you're all awesome.

So this was inspired by two things. One, This Song Will Save Your Life, which you'll hear me gushing about for forever. Two, talking to Nova about...stuff. But here we go.

I mainly chose this because I was listening to the Spotify playlist of the songs mentioned in This Song Will Save Your Life, and I already knew this song (and loved it), so I just kept thinking about it. So yeah.

Music Monday 9/23/13

This has to be the easiest one to decide on so far.

ELENOWEN

Okay, so they're a duo, and they're awesome, and I have to thank Taylor so much for the recommendation. I can't even pick one of their songs to showcase. I love their sound. It's like a mix of country and folk, but it's really beautiful. Their voices are both great, and they compliment one another. I mean, it may remind you a bit of The Civil Wars, but Elenowen has a much more country sound than The Civil Wars does.

Their music is deep and rich. The melodies flow well. And I just gahhh!!!

Here just listen to them sometime.

(I'm going to write a review of their album soon-ish too. That will be better than this mess.)

In all honesty, I haven't listened to a lot of music lately. But I still have a pick for this week!

I was originally going to go with Imagine Dragons, but I think I'll choose them next week or something.

Music Monday 8/26

So what have I been obsessed with all week (and pretty much the past month or so)?

SNOW PATROL. I knew some of their more well-known songs already, but I've listened to most of their albums now and just ahhh! They're so amazing, and I love their music. I have so many favorites, but I have to say that Chasing Cars is still one of my top favorites. But really, I just love all of their music.

Music Monday 8/19

I was actually going to go with a completely different song, but I changed my mind, so here we go!

I've recently gotten into musicals thanks to my roommate Haley from my week at Barnard. And so, when I realized that I had a new crush on someone (shhh, don't tell my parents), this song popped into my head. There's one line that particularly stuck out because I definitely relate to it ("Why are they only nice when they're unavailable?").
